Ian Cawley is a chartered surveyor with over 40 years experience in a wide range of development and construction projects both in the United Kingdom and in Africa. He has lived in the Bristol area for over 30 years and has been responsible as a project director for some of the area’s largest developments including the Spectrum office building and The Mall and leisure centre at Cribbs Causeway. Recently he was responsible for the master planning and development of the new mixed use regeneration scheme at Bristol Harbourside which incorporates many sustainable elements and has a high proportion of affordable residential dwellings included. This inclusion involved Ian in extensive negotiations with a number of Registered Social Landlords. Preliminary works on the brownfield site at Harbourside included the decontamination of the Old Town Gas Works and the preparation of a full environmental impact assessment. In bringing the master plan for Harbourside to a satisfactory conclusion Ian had to oversee one of the country’s most extensive public consultation exercises ever undertaken for a city centre redevelopment scheme, demonstrating his ability in successfully managing situations where people hold a wide range of opinions and approaches. This successful format has now become a blueprint for subsequent schemes of this type. Ian has been equally at home with smaller projects including housing association and charitably-funded projects. He has acquired wide experience over many years in dealing with the media and also as a conference speaker. |
